Step 1 · 30 seconds
Install the app
Open this in Safari — other iOS browsers cannot add apps to the home screen.
You are not in Safari. This browser cannot add apps to the home screen.
Tap the button below to switch to Safari, then follow the three steps.
- Tap the blue button below — the VoltType app opens in Safari.
Do the next steps inside the app, not on this page.
- In the app, tap Share at the bottom of Safari
- Scroll down, tap Add to Home Screen
- Tap Add — the VoltType icon appears on your home screen
Open VoltType
It opens full screen and works like any other app: dictate, clean up,
copy, share, history, your Word Bank and templates.
Step 2 · optional
Dictate from anywhere with a Shortcut
Apple does not allow a dictation keyboard outside the App Store. A Shortcut is
the way around it: double-tap the back of your iPhone, speak, and your words
land on the clipboard ready to paste — in any app.
- In the VoltType app, open Settings → iPhone Shortcut and tap Generate. Copy the key.
- Open Apple's Shortcuts app → + → name it VoltType.
- Add the action Record Audio. Set Stop Recording to On Tap.
- Add Get Contents of URL and fill it in exactly as below.
- Add Get Dictionary Value, with Key set to text.
- Add Copy to Clipboard. Save.
- Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Back Tap → Double Tap → pick VoltType.
| URL | https://volttype-api.crcaway.workers.dev/v1/dictate |
| Method | POST |
| Header | Authorization = Bearer vt_YOUR_KEY |
| Request Body | Form |
| Form field 1 | file = the Recorded Audio variable |
| Form field 2 | style = punctuated, rewrite, formal, bullet_points or raw |
Keep the key private — anyone holding it can dictate against your account
and use your quota. You can remove it any time in Settings, and the
Shortcut stops working immediately.
What works, and what doesn't
Works: dictation in 99 languages, AI cleanup, Word Bank,
templates, history, notes, your usage and plan — the same account as
Windows and Android.
Doesn't: typing straight into another app at the cursor.
Apple only permits that from a keyboard installed through the App Store,
so on iPhone the text goes to your clipboard and you paste it. Recording
also stops when the screen locks.
